The earthy, toasty, creamy sweet black cavendish is mostly a flavor carrier for the deeply rich maple topping. The very plummy perique provides some pepper, earth, wood, and figs. It’s a competitive, complementary supporting player. The flue cured gold Virginia cavendish offers a touch of tart citrus, grass, bread, sugar, and mild floralness in the background. Won’t bite or get harsh,. Has a few very minor rough edges. The strength and nic-hit are a couple of steps past the center of mild to medium. The taste just reaches the medium mark. Well balanced, it burns cool and clean at a moderate pace with a very consistent sweet maple, plummy, peppery, lightly floral flavor that extends to the short lived pleasant after taste. The maple and plum room notes are slightly stronger. Leaves little dampness in the bowl. Requires an average number of relights. Not quite an all day smoke, but smokers used to a nice dose of perique may consider it to be one.
